The battle of the Marne was a decisive battle during the course of the war and the first level in which the player controls Freddie.
Background[]
Prior to the battle, the allied armies were in retreat and the German army advancing but soon the Allies turned to face them across the river.
Battle[]
Freddie's role in the battle was the cutting of barbed wire defences that the Germans had set up and the destruction of a bridge the enemy had fortified. He also had his own personal goal in the battle and that was to catch Baron Von Dorf. But when Freddie approached the house that the Baron had made his headquarters in, the Baron noticed the tide of the battle had changed and escaped on his zeppelin. Freddie did manage to to take the house for the French though and take small satisfaction with the ripping down of Von Dorf's regimental flag.
